How to brew V60 Coffee
Steps to Brew V60 Coffee:
- Place the V60 dripper over a serving pot or directly over your coffee mug. Ensure that the serving pot or coffee mug has enough capacity to hold the volume of coffee you intend to brew.
- Open up the filter paper and open it fully at the seam. Fold down along the seam to form a cone that slots nicely into the V60 dripper. Place the filter paper into the V60 dripper.
- Wet the filter paper completely using hot water, and let the water drip into the serving pot. Swirl the hot water around the serving pot, and pour away the hot water.
- Place the V60 dripper and serving pot onto the timed weighing scale and tare the scale so that it reads zero.
- Add in your desired amount of coffee grounds based on your preference, using the weight shown on the scale as the guide. Give the coffee grounds in the V60 dripper a gentle shake to even out the coffee grounds.
- Prepare your hot water kettle and keep it on standby. Water should be about 95 degrees celsius. Based on your preference, decide on a brewing ratio that you will be using. If you are unsure, 1 part coffee grounds to 15 parts of water is a good starting point.
- Tare the scale again so that it reflects zero. When you are ready, start the timer, and pour in a small amount of hot water with the intention of wetting all the coffee grounds. The water volume at this point should not exceed 20% of the total volume of water (based on the brewing ratio you have decided).
- Leave the wet coffee grounds to pre-infuse and release any gases that it may release. Leave for 30 seconds.
- At the 30 second mark, begin pouring in hot water at a slow and steady pace. Pour in concentric circles starting from the middle of the coffee grounds, to achieve an even pour. You should be pouring at a speed that is fast enough that no part of the coffee grounds are exposed to air, but slow enough that the water does not overflow out of the filter.
- Pour until your scale reflects your desired water volume, and stop.
- Leave the V60 dripper to drip and drain out the extracted coffee.
- As a guideline, we recommend that the entire brewing process takes no longer than 2 minutes. If there is still water left in the V60 dripper after 2 minutes, it is acceptable to allow it to drip up to 2.5 minutes.
- Once completed, remove the V60 dripper and throw away the filter paper and used coffee grounds.
- Give the coffee in the serving pot a good swirl before dispensing it your coffee mug.
